As much as pupils, teachers gain hugely from the PSB. It is the ability to spend a day in each academic year discussing your subject with fellow practitioners and also colleagues from senior schools that makes the PSB unique.
Each school has a PSB Leader who is responsible for co-ordinating the PSB; this includes attendance at subject meetings and conference, arranging visits to other schools, support from the General Secretary and sharing of resources across schools.
If teaching is about inspiring a love of learning, the PSB is a powerful tool in that objective.
All teachers in PSB schools can access shared resources and this is facilitated by the General Secretary. Teachers wishing to make use of this facility this should contact him on firstname.lastname@example.org
Subject meeting testimonials:
A good guest speaker, who talked about the need to give children the meta-language of grammar to aid them in the understanding of how Standard English works. It was a good to have the chance to share our best practise. It was great to receive positive feedback on what we do.
It (the meeting) was an excellent opportunity to meet fellow Pre-prep people; to share what we are doing, and to gain ideas from others in the forum style seminars.
The MFL PSB meeting was very well organised and extremely useful. I came away with a much better idea on how to embed our Stroud Spirit skills within my teaching/planning.
I found the Prep-Prep meeting to be really beneficial. It was great to see how it was being implemented in another school but also to have the opportunity to talk to lots of people about how it looked in their school. I came away inspired.
Fantastic science meeting - very useful to hear from a Senior Independent school about the qualities that they wish to see in their new intake - a strength in the 'soft skills' which we can only amplify with the Stroud Spirit curriculum.
The music meeting was a good opportunity to meet like-minded staff and top teaching tips and websites are exchanged.
Thank you for a great day yesterday. Really motivating. Lots of PSB going on this morning and writing all over the Science lab desks creating classification keys.
I'm feeling extremely positive about the PSB and looking forward to helping my students develop these skills in Science moving forward from here.
I found it comforting that after speaking to two other heads of department who invest heavily in the PSB skills sets that it has had an impact on the way their students go about learning and is proving to be very beneficial for them.
I found it extremely informative as to how best assess the PSB within the Science department and there are lots of opportunities in which to do this not just during traditional testing period and look to do linearly throughout the year and many of which we are trying to implement now.
