PSB announce new Director of Education
The PSB is delighted to announce that its Director of Education from September 2019 will be Jonathan Carroll.
Jonathan has taught in both single sex and co-educational schools, offering boarding and day options, in the maintained and independent systems in England; a period of three years teaching overseas for Shell in Brunei was also an immensely enjoyable time. For the last 18 years Jonathan has been Headmaster at St Piran’s School, a co-educational Prep School in Maidenhead with 420 on roll.
Jonathan achieved a first degree in Geography followed by a PGCE, and then a second degree in the Philosophy of Education. A National Professional Qualification in Headship led him into leadership and gave him the confidence and ability to shape St Piran’s to provide a ‘Skills based; values focused’ educational setting.
When St Piran’s had to change with the times and finish educating children at the end of Year 6 in 2012, it was a pivotal moment in the school’s history. Skills’ focused learning and teaching became the school’s goal and following a curriculum review, the school joined the PSB.
Jonathan believes that, the opportunity to work as Director of Education within the PSB group is hugely exciting, and will enable me to support the many schools in the group to further develop their skills based approach to learning, and to support and encourage many others to embrace its clear strengths. The collegiate approach to a skills development pathway between primary and secondary schools is unique to the PSB and close collaboration between teachers means that we truly practice what we preach!
Paul Brewster, Chair of PSB Trustees commented, This appointment will build on the excellent work carried out by Philip Moore; Jonathan will play an important part in the ongoing development and growth of the PSB.
